This guide covers how to install Userplane in an Emergent app.

Adding the script

Copy and send this prompt in Emergent:
Add the following two tags inside the <head> of index.html, as early as possible before any other tags:

<meta name="userplane:workspace" content="YOUR_WORKSPACE_ID" />
<script type="module" src="https://cdn.userplane.io/embed/script.js"></script>

Do not add async or defer to the script tag.
Do not lazy-load or dynamically import this script.
Place it before all other scripts and stylesheets in <head>.

Reference: https://docs.userplane.io/developer/installation

Replace YOUR_WORKSPACE_ID with your workspace ID. You can copy the exact snippet with your ID pre-filled from Workspace Settings > Domains in the Userplane dashboard.

Sensitive data

To blur sensitive elements in recordings, send this prompt:
Add the attribute data-userplane-blur to every component or element that displays sensitive user data - for example: payment forms, password fields, personal information, account balances, health data.

Example usage:

<div data-userplane-blur>
  <input type="text" placeholder="Credit card number" />
</div>

To exclude a child element from blur, set data-userplane-blur="false" on it.

To blur all inputs globally, add this meta tag to the <head> of index.html:

<meta name="userplane:blur" content="inputs" />

See Sensitive Data Redaction for all blur methods including CSS classes, meta tag selectors, and third-party tool compatibility.

URL parameters

If your app has authentication or redirects, send this prompt:
When redirecting users (for example, to a login page), preserve all URL query parameters that start with "userplane-" through the redirect.

Here is an example of how to do this:

const url = new URL(window.location.href);
const loginUrl = new URL('/login', window.location.origin);

for (const [key, value] of url.searchParams) {
if (key.startsWith('userplane-')) {
loginUrl.searchParams.set(key, value);
}
}

window.location.href = loginUrl.toString();
